The Campbell County Shred Day is a relatively new program in Campbell County's History. Sponsored by Campbell County Solid Waste, the DAV and the Campbell County Public Library, Shred Day is an opportunity for all Campbell County Citizens to rid themselves of the private documents they've been too afraid of throwing out. On the day of, we will have two mobile Shredding Trucks supplied by Document Destruction to shred all your documents on site in a secure environment. If that isn't enough, you can even watch your documents be shredded before your very eyes! This event only happens once a year, so be sure to mark your calendars!
Oh yeah, It's Free!
The Trash for Cash 2013 is Open!
The Trash for Cash program is a fund raising opportunity for non-profit groups based in Campbell County. Groups eligible include local church groups, boy/girl scouts, school groups, non-profits etc. Once the initial documents are received (please see instructions) and a date chosen, your group will perform a clean up of up to 10 miles at $100 a mile! Please note, 10 miles is the max per calendar year each group can apply. Groups from the same program are limited to only 1 clean up (example: “School A” Varsity baseball team and “School A” JV baseball team cannot each have a clean up). Each group does not have to turn in all liability wavers at the time of application, however, all waivers must be submitted before your event.

II) Blight Complaints
Campbell County Solid Waste is the office charged with enforcing the County Blight Ordinance O-10-97. Blight is considered any item ‘dilapidated’ or ‘discarded’ on public or private property viewable from a right of way or neighboring property.
Please contact the Solid Waste department at 859-547-1802 or use our inquiry system if you believe a blight violation exists in the county.
III) Haulers and Landfills
In Campbell County, each city contracts out their own solid waste collection services. If you do not live in a city, you must contract with a Solid Waste Hauler yourself. Please use the list below to for contact information on haulers in our area.
-> Campbell County Solid Waste Providers
Live in a city and don't know who your hauler is or when they come?
Easy! Find your information below, then call your city or talk to your neighbors to find out when what day of the week your trash day is.
-> List of Solid Waste Providers per City
-> Campbell County Solid Waste Providers
VI) Recycling
Typical recycling in Campbell County happens at the curbside level. Normally, the type of services offered from a Solid Waste Hauler is determined by the city you live in. Please click the list below to find out who your provider is.
-> List of Solid Waste Providers per City
Unfortunately, many residents still do not have access to convenient recycling options. If you live in an apartment, odds are you don’t have recycling. Many times landlords will not contract for this service, nor will they provide collection dumpster for their residents to use. If you live in the unincorporated county (not in a city) odds are you don’t have curbside recycling either.
So how and where can I go to recycle?
Campbell County supplies two large recycling dumpsters for residents who do not have normal access to recycle their items. They are located at:
Campbell County Police Station
8774 Constable Drive
Alexandria, KY 41001
And
Campbell County Animal Shelter
1989 Poplar Ridge Road
Melbourne, KY 41059
Please take note that your items will need to be placed in the recycling dumpster individually. Please do not deposit your bag which holds your recyclables.
What items can I recycle?
Rumpke’s website on recycled items provides a simple, general outline to follow. Please visit: www.rumpkerecycling.com
Large Item Recycling
Example: Refrigerators, Dishwashers, Water Heaters, Deep Freezers, etc.
Items like these are generally dubbed as ‘Whitegoods’. Many times local haulers will not take these items for free. So Campbell County developed a program which accepts Whitegoods all year round at 1175 Racetrack Road, Alexandria, KY 41001 if you can get it to us. (Freon is ok!)
Bring your Whitegoods anytime between 8:30 am - 3:00 pm (M-F) to the address above. Simply drive to the far side of the complex and enter the set of normal doors by the flag poles. While there talk to the receptionist and you’ll receive further instruction on what to do. Oh yeah, its free!
Remember to call them before you show up! (859.635.9100)
V) Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Disposal
Example: Oil, Antifreeze, Gas, Insecticides, Pesticides
Many times you simply have chemicals that are unmarked or difficult to get rid of. If you know the type of waste please consult the Northern Kentucky Resource Guide for more information on your item:
-> Northern Kentucky Resource Guide
If you have several types of chemicals (marked and unmarked) please look at page 8 of the Northern Kentucky Resource Guide. Environmental Enterprises, based in Cincinnati, specializes in taking a wide variety of chemicals off your hands for a small fee. Usually it is based on a per pound basis of materials you bring them. Environmental Enterprises can accommodate either industrial or individual amounts of Household Hazardous Waste.
Don’t forget!!!!
Normally, once a year in the Fall the Northern Kentucky Solid Waste Management Area hosts an HHW event, free for residents of Campbell, Kenton and Boone Counties. Please see the EVENTS tab above for more information as it becomes available every fall.
VI) Paint Disposal
Paint is the #1 item our residents call about. But did you know paint is not a hazardous material? If dry, paint can be placed out to your normal trash collection. Once the Solid Waste Hauler can see that it is dry, it will be taken to the landfill.
Also, please see page 8 of the Resource Guide linked above for places to take used paint.
So, you need to dry some paint?
Use an absorbent like: Sawdust, Kitty Litter or Paint Crystals.
Step 1: Mix it in, stir. Place in a safe area with the lid off, as drying takes several days.
Step 2: Sit for a day, stir again. Repeat step 2 as often as necessary until dry.
Step 3: Place by your normal trash, with the lid off.
